Driving Distractions

Now I am not innocent from casually glancing down at my phone while driving. However, I’m usually at a red light when I do so. Now that I have a sweet baby in the car I am a lot more safety conscience.

Husband and I witnessed a new kind of distracted while on the freeway the other day. A guy was in an older car, that to me appeared to be manual transmission, which as I can recall takes two hands and feet to drive. This guy may have been either extremely talented or not the brightest crayon in the box because he was talking on his phone with one hand… and smoking a cigarette with the other hand… now I’m no mathematician but when 2 out of 2 hands are off the wheel some thing doesn't exactly add up. Husband and I laughed about it, of course, but we also kept a very close eye on that car. Safety first people. Safety first.

First 30th Birthday Celebration

That's right, I had more than one birthday celebration. Apparently when you turn 30 you get to have multiple birthday celebrations. I may or may not have planned multiple parties for myself, so I could eat unscrupulous amounts of cake and not be judged. Is that bad? I didn't think so.

Aren't birthdays more fun when your whole family is there? My brother and sis in law live about 6 hours from us, so we don't always get to have them with us during birthday celebrations. However, they were here to celebrate my 30th! My family celebrations are generally spent drinking coffee, talking, laughing, eating, laughing some more, drinking more coffee, and eating cake. It's a brilliant combo if you ask me.

Cheering gets the job done

My amazing husband and his BFF Nathan built me a deck this weekend! Yes, it was for me because anything that’s done in the month of March is in celebration of my birthday. Don’t you celebrate your birthday all month long!? I take full advantage of it. Anyways, they started and completed this beautiful deck in just 2 days! Owen and I were very impressed. I supported them by bringing them ice water every so often and cheering them on. I’m pretty sure my cheers were what they needed to finish the job so quickly. Maybe they worked so fast because they were trying to get me to stop cheering... hmmm interesting… either way it worked!

Owen's St. Patty's Day Outtakes

This is what I imagine my 5 month old was thinking during out 2 min photo shoot on the front lawn. What are your thoughts?

Home Depot Regulars

You know you shop at Home Depot too much when you start to recognize the employees. Or worse, the employees recognize you! Last night was hopefully our one and only trip there for this week. Sadly our “date nights” have consisted of wandering around Home Depot for the past few weeks. Why you ask? We have been finishing up a home addition project that started about 6 months ago. Baby steps to the finish line!

I’m pretty sure Owen thinks we own a second home with a bright orange sign in front of it. He gets all excited when we arrive and can’t stop kicking. No baby boy, this so called Home, that smells of delicious newly cut lumber, makes us leave at 9pm promptly every weeknight. It’s sad that I know the closing times, right?

Almost 30. Yikes!

Did anyone get a little freaked out when they turned 30? I would say I’m about 90% in awe of how much my life has changed over the past decade and 10% freaked out. Not logically freaked out, just not being able to say, “I’m in my 20’s” is odd to me. However, life has changed so much in my 20’s and just thinking about it all makes me smile. I’ve graduated college, made countless memories with some amazing besties, traveled to several countries, met the man of my dreams and got married, bought a house and had the sweetest baby boy a mama could ask for! Holy moly! Life is an adventure!

Now before I get too sentimental and start weeping all over my laptop (lingering prego hormones) I want to make some New Years resolutions. I’m usually a little late for the January resolutions so I figure my birthday is a good time to set them! Here we go…

  1. Take more pictures! Especially since I have the cutest babe rolling around my casa.
  2. Lose the remaining 6 lbs of baby weight. Stubborn little buggers.
  3. Don’t let the fact that my husband is 27 and I’m 30 (A completely different decade!) get to me too much.
  4. Blog more. Keep me accountable please!
  5. Become a better cook. Which basically means to cook more than my 15 revolving dishes.
  6. Read more.

How about you? Did you freak out a little when you turned 30? Or does the thought turning 30 bother you at all?

Target while Pregnant

Have you ever gone into Target to buy one thing, and ended up leaving with half the store? Of course you have! Target is tricky.

Shopping at Target while pregnant is one thousand times harder than normal! Yesterday I walked in with my list in hand... then my prego brain took control. I started wandering around in a happy euphoria. I lost my list. Purchased some items I’m sure were not on my list. And walked out of there with $60 less in our account and confused at what just happened. Ummmm, what!? Sorry husband, it's the baby's fault?!

Pregnancy-Week 19, Amazing vs. Awkward

The Amazing
  1. Baby boy is growing healthy and strong! Husband and I had our first ultrasound a few weeks ago, where we saw baby boy moving all around, and literally waving at us! Our doctor said that he is growing right on schedule and is about 6 inches long now. Keep growing little one.
  2. Pregnancy pants. Okay so up until today I really did not want to like any pregnancy clothes. I just wanted to wear my regular clothes and stick to maxi dresses, etc. However, my sweet mother-in-law gave me a pair of prego shorts for my birthday and I tried them on today. HEAVENLY! This wide-load pregnant mama is now a pregnancy pant believer. Who knew I'd cave so easily!?
The Awkward
  1. I had a complete stranger rub my belly this week. Not just touch my belly, because that would have been awkward enough. She had both hands fully on my belly, rubbing in a circular motion for a full 30 seconds. I felt like I was a car getting dried off at the carwash!
  2. Thinking I could squeeze by anything now! My truck was parked a little too close to a wall in our garage and I told husband, “No it’s fine, I can squeeze in!” Not even close. Husband looked at me with compassionate eyes that were really saying, “yea nice try babe. I knew you wouldn’t fit, but if I had said that you might breakdown into a crying fit, so I’ll just keep quiet.” He is oh so wise.

Windshield Wipers

Via Pinterest/Yokoyama
Who knew how necessary windshield wipers were!? Oh wait, you all did? Everyone besides me in the world apparently knew. I’ve been using the same wipers for about 10 years now and over the last decade they have become less and less… helpful. However since I live in sunny Southern California I don’t need them very often so I didn’t notice they were unwilling to preform their duties.

There comes a point when wipers are pretty much useless and you need to hang your head outside of the car, while it is raining, in order to drive. Lesson learned.

Ringing in the New Year

As you can see, my New Years Eve was ridiculously fun! Husband and I spent the evening with several of our favorite people. We played games, BBQ’d some delicious kabobs, laughed so hard our stomachs hurt, and of course took WAY too many photobooth pictures! Okay, okay... You're right... You can never have too many photobooth pictures.  I agree! How did you spend your New Years Eve?
