Pre-Thanksgiving Workout

Oh man, Thanksgiving is not even here and I think I’ve gained 3 pounds just thinking about Thanksgiving dinner. Is that possible? Well, in anticipation of the holiday I’m going to do this short workout every evening. Anyone want to try it with me?? If so, how many sets are you going to do?

(I found this on Pinterest, anyone know where it came from so I can give them credit?)

Happy Monday

Hello everyone! Is it just me, or did sleeping in one extra hour make you feel completely rested? I think we should gain an hour every Monday. Yes? Who’s with me?! Well I had a wonderful weekend. Husband decided to be extra manly and went rock climbing on Saturday. That meant I was free to have a few of my friends over! We walked all around Long Beach, ate lunch, walked along the beach path, drank some coffee, and walked a little more. Apparently we love to walk. How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting?

Cash-only

Free coffee tastes much better than bought coffee. Don’t you agree? Every few weeks I pick up donuts for my Marketing team at a cash-only establishment. This morning I only had enough cash for the glazed, sprinkled, and chocolate assortment of donuts. As I frantically searched my purse for an extra dollar, the owner noticed and gave me the coffee for free today! I guess he saw the desperation in my eyes, or the shaky hands, or the fact that I had my sweater on inside out! Whatever swayed him to take pity on me, I’m absolutely okay with. In fact, he just earned himself a loyal customer.

Why I love November

Confession, I stole this idea from a dear friend of mine who has a fantastic blog called the leaflet. I want to be like this woman when I grow-up. Even though she is younger than me, I completely look up to her. By the way, how old are you when you are supposed to be “grown-up”? I think I might be far from it. I still sometimes act like a child, make awkward comments just because they might be true, throw temper tantrums in the cereal aisle when husband wants a different cereal brand than me, thoroughly enjoy city parks (okay just the swing sets!) , and pout when I’m overly tired. Poor Phil, he really got a handful when he chose me!
My top ten reasons why I love November
1.   It’s husbands birthday month! I get to spoil Phil for the first time as his wife!! Also, most of the year I’m three years older than him, but from Nov-March I’m only two years older! Think about it. It makes sense. At least it does in my head.
2.   Thanksgiving with the family. We get to spend one glorious day with both my family and Phil’s. I get to forget about portion control and eat like I won’t have to run it off for the next few weeks. Not to mention a few paid days off of work. Yes please!
3.   Cold nights, with hot tea, where Phil and I cuddle up on the couch and watch movies.
4.   No shave November. Husband usually doesn’t shave in November so that he can have a manly mustache for December. Love, love, love it! Some of you might not know that Phil’s mustache is what first attracted me to him. Oh yes, love the mustache.
5.   Holiday candles that fill our apartment with the most delicious smells! What is it about candles that make a house just feel more homey too? Whatever it is, I like it.
6.   Winter clothes! In Southern Cali we don’t usually have cold weather, okay so we are pretty much pansies to the rest of the US and when the temperature is less than 70 degrees it’s considered cold.  Then I can bust out my scarves and boots and I’m a happy gal.
7.   Christmas shopping starts. Two for me, one for them. It works out nicely.
8.   Fall leaves. I don’t notice trees around here changing until November. When those leave are golden, burnt orange and slightly green still it’s such a beautiful sight. Someday I’d like to travel to the East Coast for fall and drive through New England. It is supposed to be breathtaking.
9.   Christmas party planning begins! Work parties, friend parties, and family parties are all planned in November and I like to be involved in all of the party planning committees.
10. Husband is home all month long! No work trips are planned that take him far away from me. Best month ever.

Flashbacks

Last year I decided to be festive and dress-up for Halloween at work. This is what I looked like. I had a vicious cold (and showed up for work anyways, probably getting everyone else sick at the same time. Oops?), a red nose to cover my red nose, an oversized clown tie filled with explosions of color, and a bad attitude. This year I decided to save my co-workers from this painful spectacle. However, tonight my church is hookin’ up the neighborhood kiddies with candy and games via trunk-or-treat. Do you want to come? Details are here.

Hiking for fun?

What does your family do on vacation? Do you go fishing, take cruises, travel to other countries, or just relax at home? Husbands family is very adventurous and loves to hike and explore different areas. We hiked the Grand Canyon (30 miles in 2.5 days….so hardcore and painful at the same time!) and hiked Bryce Canyon and Zion Nation Park this year. To say the least, they keep me in shape! This weekend we all went hiking in Orange County and it was a beautiful hike. Besides me sweating like a beast, it was a good-looking hike. How do you like to spend your vacations?

By the way, how sweet does Phil look with our nephew? Oh my goodness, melt my heart why don’t cha’!

Windex cures all

Lately I’ve noticed that I’m like the father on the movie My Big Fat Greek wedding. I’m not saying I’m feeling like a middle aged, hairy, Greek man, because that would just be uncomfortable. I’m saying that I think the cure for many, many things is Windex! Phil asked me the other day what he should use to clean a few things and every time my answer was Windex! It was at that moment I realized Gus Portokalos from the movie is undeniably right, any ailment from psoriasis to poison ivy could be cured with Windex.
Oh yea, and it’s Friday! Who else has been looking forward to this day all week?! Weewww hewww!! Anyone have plans for the weekend? I'd love to hear what you have on the agenda!

Busy, busy, busy

Yesterday was one of those days where from start to finish I didn’t have 2 minutes to just sit and relax. Drove to work, worked 9 hours, drove home, packed some of my etsy sales, dropped them off at UPS, drove home, cooked dinner, prepared my song for bible study (I play the guitar there, and lead the worship song, eek!), went to bible study, mingled afterwards for a little (okay so this was definitely a highlight of the day!), drove home, paid some bills, did the dishes then climbed into bed. As I was finishing the dishes Phil (who had just finished our laundry) hugged me and just said, “I love you babe, I’m so thankful for who you are, and all that you do for us.” My eyes welled up with tears because husband always knows what to say, even when I don’t know I need to hear it. Moments like that make this busy, sometimes hectic, life I lead simply blissful.

Fall Back yet?

My house is decorated for fall. I’m burning my holiday candle 24 hours a day. Seriously this holiday candle smells so good I want to take a bite out of it all the time. And I’m starting to listen to Christmas music already. Is it time for us to fall back yet?? I desperately need an extra hour of sleep right now. People think I’m dressing up as a zombie for Halloween early. Nope sorry stranger, that’s just my face.
